Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Walter Straud in The Lodge
  2. Travel to Stroud-Eklund Staryard
  3. Talk to the read of R&D, Jules
  4. Jules will ask whether to go for a small budget ship or a large budget ship.
    1. Small Budget Ship: Convince Frank to abandon his high end components which do not fit into the small budget ship
    2. Large Budget Ship: Convince Jules to get the higher budget.
  5. (Optional) Talk to the rest of the design team about their ideas
  6. Go to the mission board and complete one or both of the following
    1. A bounty quest (For example, kill Crimson)
    2. A passenger mission (For example, transport farmers to a farm)
  7. Once complete, return to Jules
  8. Solve the team's interpersonal issues, wither via a guided meditation session, or by asking everyone to compromise. This solely impacts the resulting ship
    1. If you go with Meditation, the mission reward will be a Kepler R
    2. If you go with Compromise, the mission reward will be a Kepler S
  9. Return to Walter for the credit reward
  10. (Optional) Return to the Straud-Eklund Staryard to pick up the new ship. It will be floating in the staryard.

Companion Affinity[edit]

There are multiple affinity events that can happen during this mission.

The player fronted a HUGE sum of credits towards increasing the ship's budget so that the Stroud-Eklund R&D team isn't as limited by what they can put in their new ship design, though it's unclear what the player stands to gain from this other than unblocking the process. This will lean the ship design towards the more ridiculous design.[affinity 1]

Addressing the player. The player has just managed to convince Frank to cut some of the more expensive luxury components out of his design proposal, which will help reduce the cost of the ship and lead it towards more of a sensible design outcome. Frank has been established as a pretty stubborn guy, so the player's negotiation skills are impressive.[affinity 2]

Addressing Jules. The player has just managed to convince Jules to go back to the board and advocate for a bigger budget, which and lead the ship design towards more of a versatile/ostentatious design outcome. The player could use some backup here, or some criticism.[affinity 3]

The player solved the budget issue by going around Jules' back and hacking into the Stroud-Eklund system, then approving a much higher budget than originally planned. This should not be known by Jules, so the companion should not out the player or mention the hacking specifically.[affinity 4]

  • This mission seemingly cannot be started in New Game Plus if you skip the story, or if the story was unavailable. You can forcibly start the quest with the command "SetStage 00299E7A 1", and then speaking to Walter.

Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Mission system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all entries may appear in your log; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the mission is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with missions that have multiple possible outcomes or missions where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Mission" it means the mission disappears from the Active Mission list, but you may still receive new entries for that mission.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the mission by entering setstage MS05 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) mission stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the mission using resetquest MS05.
