Magazines provide permanent perks after being picked up. They are listed under the notes section of the inventory.

Magazines provide additional unique perks. These perks grant gradual bonuses to various aspects of gameplay, from combat bonuses to crafting recipes.

With the exception of recipes, which are tied to specific issues of their respective magazines, perks are unlocked sequentially as issues of each magazine series are found, regardless of order.

In a single run, duplicate issues of the same magazine will not grant an additional perk. However, if the same magazine is found in New Game+ the next perk for the series will be granted if there's any left.

There are currently no in-game indication of how many issues of a specific magazine the player has collected. However, the magazine description in the inventory will always show which perk was gained from that issue in the current playthrough. Therefore the magazine description for each issue can very on different playthroughs as they are set based on the order players discover the magazines. In new game plus, once all perks have been earned... further discovery of new issues will simply have no description.

The status menu will keep track of the total number of magazines perks awarded across all new game plus runs with 105 being the maximum.

  3. Healing items are permanently 5% more effective.
  4. Outposts permanently produce resouces 5% faster.
  5. Basic and Advanced Science skills unlocked 2% faster (on top of any other bonuses).

  5. Grants the recipe for AddiJack, which removes addiction penalties and grants a bonus to researching.

Some magazines exist only in the game files and are not obtainable without console commands. These magazines are referred to as Unused Content.

Locations[edit]

NOTE[edit]

A location may be labeled one thing when viewed from space, and something else more specific when discovered on foot.

For Example:

  • A facility may be labeled "Science Outpost" when viewed from space, but after landing and approaching the on foot. It can be discovered to be an "Abandoned Industrial Compound" and the label on the planet screen will change to match.
  • When the player lands at an "Abandoned Outpost" and then enters the facility past a loading screen, the player may find when returning that the door is labelled "Abandoned Mineral Refinery" and after exiting the facility the data screen also says "Abandoned Mineral Refinery" but the planet screen still says "Abandoned Outpost".

Therefore it is necessary to land the ship at a generic abandoned outposts and approach on foot in order to discover the exact type of the facility.
