Official Summary[edit]
"As a newly-recruited Deputy in the respected Freestar Rangers, the player is carrying out an investigation into a mercenary company called The First that's been threatening farmers in an effort to seize their land for some unknown purpose. The player has finally learned the location of the First's hideout, and can now confrnot them head-on, which means going toe-to-toe with their leader, disgraced former war hero Paxton Hull."
Quick Walkthrough[edit]
- Speak to Daniel Blake
- Kill Paxton Hull
Walkthrough[edit]
Once you've delivered the last encrypted data slate to Alex Shadid, you will be called in for a debriefing with Daniel Blake and Emma Wilcox. With the aid of the decrypted slates, Blake will identify the First's hideout as an abandoned mech factory on Arcturus II, and dispatch you to bring Paxton Hull to justice.
Upon arrival in orbit over Arcturus II, you will be attacked by three waves of hostile First starships. You will have to defeat them all in order to land.
You will touch down on a landing pad outside the entrance to the factory, which is dug into the wall of a large valley. There are no hostiles outside, but once you enter the factory's entrance bay, Hull will contact you over the factory's loudspeakers, and you will be attacked by a platoon of 1st Cav Veterans. The majority of the enemies you encounter in the factory will be First infantry, armed with Laredo ballistic weapons and grenades.
The entrance bay is large, open, and has plenty of cover. Most of the enemies are positioned on the high ground at the far side of the room, which may make a stealthy approach difficult. You will need to reach the back side of the entrance bay in order to proceed to the foundry.
The foundry consists of a large open cavern with a network of catwalks. You enter the cavern through an elevated office area, and must make your way across the catwalks to the far side. There is little in the way of cover.
Once past the foundry, you will enter the mech construction area. This is an enormous, snaking corridor, with large recessed construction bays rimmed with catwalks. The First have fortified this area in huge numbers, and they have the high ground. Smaller, unguarded side tunnels connect the construction bays, which can be used by a stealthy player to flank or evade the enemy.
Finally, you will reach the main control center, a large two-story room with an enclosed room-within-a-room at its center. In addition to the many First mercenaries patrolling the control center, Paxton Hull himself occupies the central room, and is armed with a Bridger, making him a particularly dangerous threat. Evasion is not an option here, you must defeat all of the First mercenaries, including Hull himself.
Once the enemies are defeated, you will find that Hull is still alive. Talk to him, and he will reveal that he has been working for Ron Hope the entire time, handing you a record of their contract as proof. He will then make one last stand. Even on his own, Hull is a formidable opponent who can put out a considerable amount of damage in a short time, so be ready to take cover once the conversation ends.
Once Hull is dead, take the elevator to return to the surface.

During a debriefing, it comes to light that the player generously paid off a debt in order to help an informant. When the player is complimented for this, they respond with "I expect to be fully compensated," which suggests the player is not as generous as they initially seemed. It's a fair request, but also could make the player seem less altruistic in the eyes of the company.[affinity 2] |

Confronting Major Paxton Hull of the first, the player chooses to arrest him, saying "I'm bringing you in." (The other option was to kill him on the spot, making this the more merciful choice.) Notably, Paxton Hull replied to this choice by saying "Don't bother," implying he does not plan to come quietly. Violence might be imminent.[affinity 3] |

Confronting Major Paxton Hull of the first, the player says "You don't deserve to live," which implies they intend to act as judge, jury and executioner and kill Hull here and now. (The other choice was to arrest him)[affinity 4] |

- Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g.,
<Alias=LocationHold>
) is dynamically set by the Radiant Mission system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game. - Not all entries may appear in your log; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the mission is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with missions that have multiple possible outcomes or missions where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Mission" it means the mission disappears from the Active Mission list, but you may still receive new entries for that mission.
- On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the mission by entering
