Official Summary[edit]

"The player returns to Vectera, looking for BARRETT, but ends up finding LIN alone at the mining colony. Pirates came back to the colony and Barrett and HELLER were taken captive. The player tracks their ship down, only to find it crash landed, with Heller alone and injured. He explains that he and Barrett managed to get away from the pirates but ended up crashing the ship. He then points you to the pirate's base, where Barrett is being held by the pirate captain MATSURA."

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

After your first Constellation mission, Sarah Morgan recommended you look for Barrett next. You had left him on Vectera, where he stayed behind to help the miners fend off the Crimson Fleet attack while you took the Frontier to bring Artifact to the Lodge. No one has heard from him since. So Vectera is the place to pick up the trail to find Barrett.

Vectera[edit]

Vectera is the second moon of the planet Anselon in the Narion system. Jump to Anselon, then land at the Argos Extractors Mining Outpost. Talk to Supervisor Lin.

A very upset Lin gives you a recount of the events after you left: more pirates showed up and the fight cost the lives of Calvert, Troy, and some of the new dusties. Lin was pinned down behind some crates with Barrett. To save Lin, Barrett jumped out of cover, killed two pirates, captured the third, and demanded to talk with the pirate's leaders. Unfortunately Heller had already been captured by the pirates, so Barrett yielded and let himself get captured too. The pirates took both of them and flew away. Lin tried to ping a transmission to the pirate's ship from the communications building, but it didn't work.

Go into the building to your right. Don't forget to pick up Heller's Cutter from the cutter crate. Later, pick up the Trackers Primer 05 on a table in the sleeping section.

You can find Vectera Control Room Key in the office. The control room is behind a sealed door that you have to open with the switch in front of it. You find a Communications Computer inside. At the moment, the computer is barely functional. If you have the Security skill, you can pull out Emergency Transmission 01. Otherwise, you need to provide three power cells to the auxiliary power banks in the next room. You can find Emergency Power Cells:

  • Living Quarters
    • In the office.
    • On the storage shelves outside the office.
  • Outside
    • On a trolley next to a destroyed robot.
    • Check the same robot to find another power cell (if you didn't use Security).
    • On a pallet near the Operations Building.
    • Ask Lin for a power cell (if you didn't use Security).
  • Operations building
    • In the first room on a trolley next to the desk.
    • In the suit room in a locker.
    • Next to the MedBench in the suit room.
    • Check the MedBench to find another power cell (if you didn't use Security).
    • In the elevator room inside a cage with a master level lock.
    • In the storage room on a shelf.

While in the operations building, you can go back down into the mine. Its veins have re-spawned. This is an excellent opportunity to gather Beryllium and Caelumite.

If you didn't use Security, insert three power cells into the three power receptacles in the control room. Now access the computer and download Emergency Transmission 01.

The slate has a quick conversation between Barrett and Heller aboard the pirate ship. Barrett sent this message with embedded interstellar coordinates so you will be able to follow them.

Find Lin outside busily disassembling the base. Lin is delighted to learn that Barrett and Heller are alive, and pulls coordinates to their destination from the transmission.

You can ask Lin to join your team. She will decline for the moment, although you can talk to her again and hire her immediately.

Crash site[edit]

Your next destination is a random planet or moon. Fly there, then land at the crash site whenever you are ready.

The crash site will be a short walk from your landing site. Talk to Heller on the east side of the wreck.

Heller gives a recount of the events: Barrett told Heller to feign a fight between them. When the pirates tried to break it up, Barrett reached for one of their guns and accidentally discharged it, firing through the the pilot and destroying the flight console. Barrett and Heller were the only survivors of the following crash. Unfortunately, they were picked up by another Crimson Fleet vessel. Heller couldn't make out what Barrett was saying to the pirates, but they all departed and left Heller behind. Apparently, Barrett told the pirates he would be worth some ransom, but Heller isn't sure. But he got a signal from the ship before it jumped away. He hands you a copy. Heller then asks if he may join you (which you can accept or decline). The crash site has little else of interest.

Listen to Emergency Transmission 02. It's a conversation between Barrett and someone called Matsura. Barrett pulled the same trick of embedding jump coordinates into the message again, only this time he has to look at a reflection in a window. Your next target is Bessel III.

Bessel III[edit]

Go to Bessel III in the Bessel System and land at the Ransacked Research Outpost. Defeat the defending pirates outside. Loot them before entering the Crimson Fleet Outpost building; the bodies clean up in your absence. After you find its key, there is a barracks to sleep.

Inside the Crimson Fleet Outpost, follow the stairs down to a large window on your left. There you see Barrett idly chitchatting with Matsura the Grim, awaiting rescue and probably tea. Matsura is actually quite polite and asks for ransom for Barrett's freedom. If you are with Sarah Morgan, you can let her handle the situation. Otherwise, pay Credit.png4,000, persuade Matsura to let Barrett go for free, or start shooting.

Afterwards, talk to Barrett. When you are ready[outposts 1], return to the Lodge.

  1. Scanning the nearby moons, note that Bessel III-b has an atmosphere and most of the resources needed for building itself and future outposts.

Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Mission system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all entries may appear in your log; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the mission is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with missions that have multiple possible outcomes or missions where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Mission" it means the mission disappears from the Active Mission list, but you may still receive new entries for that mission.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the mission by entering setstage MQ104B stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) mission stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the mission using resetquest MQ104B.
