The Vanguard Exam Center is a location within MAST Tower. It is accessed by an elevator from the Vanguard Orientation Hall or from the central MAST Tower elevator.
This is a large room with two piloting simulator pods. Optionally, talk to a vanguard technician there. The nearby yellow tool trolley has a Simulator Admin Systems Keycard; take this only when you are not skilled at Security.
Near simulator two, find a piloting magazine in the break room. Optionally, talk to a fellow vanguard applicant who would like to quit working at TerraBrew. Then, travel to simulator one and speak with Exam Proctor Samuelson to begin your piloting test.
Once in the pod, sit down in the piloting chair. After a few seconds, AI ships should appear and start attacking. Exit the chair at any time and head to the debug panel to cheat. With the simulator admin systems keycard or advanced security skill, hacking into the advanced debug options will grant an ally, improved shields, and improved weapons.
Return to the chair and begin dogfighting the AI ships. Cheating will make the test easier, but not assured. In order to get the highest possible score, complete all 6 rounds.
Return at any time to repeat the exam for more ship targeting experience.
