Persuasion

Persuasion is a Novice Social skill.

Persuasion is automatically unlocked and can already be learned by using a skill point to learn it.

Speech Challenges[edit]

Persuasion is used primarily in Speech Challenges, a minigame in which you must persuade an NPC of something by selecting arguments. Speech Challenges are initiated by selecting dialogue options with the [Persuade] tag.

In a Speech Challenge, the normal dialogue interface is replaced by a list of your available arguments. Below this, from left to right, are a number of pips, the current round, and the auto-persuade meter. The pips indicate the difficulty of the challenge and your progress towards completing it. Easy Speech Challenges have four pops, moderate challenges have six, and difficult challenges have eight. The goal of the minigame is to fill all the pipe before the end of the final round.

A Speech Challenge consists of several rounds. In each round, you are presented with a list of arguments. Next to each argument is a number, showing how many pips it will fill if successful, and a colored bar, indicating how likely it is to succeed - blue arguments are guaranteed, green arguments likely, yellow arguments less likely, and red arguments very unlikely. You are guaranteed at least three rounds. After that, every successful argument will give you an additional round, but a failed argument will automatically fail the challenge. Occasionally, an argument will be a critical success, which instantly completes the challenge regardless of how many pips are filled.

The arguments available are taken from a pool of both generic arguments and arguments specific to the speech challenge. Additionally, some skills, items, and missions can unlock new arguments, which almost always have a higher chance of success than usual for how many pips they fill.

As you make arguments, you will also fill up the auto-persuade meter, which persists between challenges. When the auto-persuade meter is full, you can auto-persuade once to instantly complete the current challenge. Note that you can only auto-persuade so long as you have at least one round remaining.
