Ron Hope is a resident of HopeTown, the founder and president of HopeTech, and a member of the Freestar Collective's Council of Governors.
Background[edit]
Hope comes from a working-class background, having made his start as the captain of a freighter before earning enough money to break into the shipbuilding business. This is reflected in HopeTech's design philosophy, focused on cheap, practical freighters with few bells and whistles. HopeTech is the primary employer on Polvo, to the point that the planet's economy would likely collapse entirely without the company, and "HopeTown" is its de facto capital.
Personality[edit]
Hope is a proud man who sees himself as the savior of Polvo. He has a paternalistic sense of loyalty toward his employees, but is absolutely ruthless with regards to outsiders, willing to do anything to ensure HopeTech's growth. He has little patience for those who do not give him the respect he believes he deserves, and considers both his wealth and authority to place him above the law.
The Montara Luna Scheme[edit]
Hope has been trying for some time to break HopeTech into new industries. Most recently, he attempted to work with several farmers on Montara Luna to pioneer an experimental form of fertilizer, to disastrous results. However, while the fertilizer was actively harmful to the farmers' crops, HopeTech scientists discovered a surprising side effect - it hardened the soil and enriched it with several valuable minerals.
Seeing an opportunity, Hope moved to drive the farmers who had participated in the experiment off their land so that it could be seized for mining. Not wanting to be seen doing this publicly, he contracted a group of mercenaries with a grudge against the Freestar Collective, the First, and covertly provided them with resources.
