Henry "Hank" Ferraro, full body

Henry "Hank" Ferraro is a miner on Cydonia for Deimos Staryards Inc. The other miners have low opinion of him due to his poor attitude, and he is a looking for a way to get out of his contract. This comes to a head during the conclusion of Red Tape Reclamation, either ending with you sparing him, sending him to jail, or killing him.

From 8PM to 5AM he can be found in the Deimos Miner Quarters. For the rest of the day he can be found working in the mine. During Red Tape Reclamation he can be found at the Broken Spear after talking with ship services, and if you turn him into security you can find him in jail from then on.

He wears a Miner Jumpsuit. He also has a Deimos Spacesuit, Deimos Space Helmet, and a Deimos Tunnel for hostile conditions. He keeps a Cutter for mining on her, and a Rescue Axe for self defense. Henry "Hank" Ferraro has a standard amount of Credits, and can carry Aid Items.

DialogueEdit

Henry starts conversations with these greetings:

"You got a problem or something? Hah, just messing with you!"
"Man, Cydonia blows."
"You hear about Rivkah? Man. Who knew she had it in her to sock her old man like that! If you ask me she got what was coming to her."
"This is only my first contract, but I've already hauled more ore than any of the old-timers could ever produce. That's why they're jealous of me!"
"It takes guts and character to be a miner out here."
"You wouldn't last a week in the mines."

If you sent him to jail, he will be upset if he sees you again:

"Hey, screw you! I almost got away with it."
"Go away. I don't want to see your face."
"Yo, you're the one who put me here. Better watch your back if I ever get out!"
"They said my sentence would be shorter 'cause I came clean, but it still feels like forever."
"Just gonna do my time, and hope they don't fire me."
"I hope I did the right thing by turning myself in."
"Man, this blows."

If you stop speaking mid-conversation, Hank will say:

"Are you always this quiet and weird?"
"What the heck are you waiting for?"
"Hey, sometime today, will you?"

You can converse with Hank: You ever hear about this Heart of Mars thing Laylah's been talking about?

"What? No... She's never told me about it. Hold on. Is there some big thing everyone knows about that they're just keeping from me? Probably think I can't keep a secret... Fine, I don't want to have anything to do with their stupid Mars Harp or whatever it is anyway."

What do you think of mining work?

"What, standing around, pointing a cutter at some rocks all day? It sucks, but it's easy, so whatever. What I hate are all the people that treat me like some kind of joke. That's why I did what I did. Way better than my last job at Chunks, though."

So what's your story?

"My story? My story is that I don't like people asking what my story is. Hah, I'm just messing. But really, I don't want to talk about myself."

Mission-Related EventsEdit

Trevor will inform you that Hank volunteered to pick up the new mining gear, but he and the gear have disappeared. After doing some legwork, you will encounter him in the Broken Spear:

I've got some questions for you, Hank. About the new equipment.
"Questions, huh? Let me buy you a beer first."
We suspect you may have something to do with the missing equipment.
"Do you now? Well, you're not wrong. I do have something to do with it. In fact, I'm the one who took it."
Cut the crap. I know you took the new equipment, but I don't know why.
"Heh. Okay, you got me. Yeah, I took it. Wanna know why?"
I'm just trying to help Trevor. You went to get the equipment, but didn't return it.
"You're right. I didn't want to bring it back, so I took it."

Regardless of your previous option, he will then confess the same way:

"I had to. Those guys all think I'm some kind of joke. And, I'm stuck with this stupid three year contract. I can't afford to break it. So, screw Deimos. Screw Trevor and all the other miners. Losing that equipment's the last straw for them. Did he tell you that? One last failure in a string of failures to meet quotas. It'll be layoffs for everyone, and I won't owe Deimos a damn credit."
Isn't there a better way to get out of your contract than this?
"No. Maybe. I don't know... You know what, who cares! It's my plan and I'm already doing it!"
How could you do that to your coworkers?
"How could I? You'd do it too if your co-workers never took you seriously. I'm always showing them how much better I am than them, and all they do is laugh and talk behind my back. They think I don't hear them, but I do. They say I'm a show-off. That I'm "not good at what I do." So, screw 'em. This whole planet sucks. Everyone here is a friggin' loser."
That's a terrible plan. And now that you told me, they'll arrest you.
"Shit... You're right. Fine. You got me. *sigh* What do you say I take you to the goods and we bring it back. You can even say you found it, just don't turn me in, alright?"
Tell you what. You give me the equipment and no one ever needs to know.
"Hmm. Well shit, you could turn me in. I'd be in jail and then this'd all be for nothing. Damn it. Fine, you got me. I'll take you to where I stashed it and we can haul it back. But you better not be lying to me about not telling anyone."

Hank is actually quite clearly planning on trying to murder you, turning his attempt to get out three year job contract into murder with him as the clear suspect at best. Regardless of how you attempt to persuade him, it will not change his plan:

You should know, I'm well armed and capable of defending myself if you go looking for trouble.
"Relax, hotshot. I ain't gonna shoot you in the back, if that's what you're worried about."

OK, but if you try anything stupid, I'll go straight to Security.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm not an idiot."
I promise I won't turn you in. I just want the equipment back.
"Sure, fine. I get it."

He will then end each of these with:

"Just... follow me. We're going outside."

Or if you are Starborn, you can blatantly tell him you know his plan:

I know you're just going to turn on me when we get there. Let's cut to the chase.
"I... are you kidding me? I'm not an idiot! Sheesh! Look, if you want the stuff, come with me. I'm going. You can follow me or not."

Your companions will also point out Hank's shiftiness:

Andreja: "Your instincts are correct here, I think. Hank is not to be trusted."
Barrett: "Hank, don't get weird on us now. Or weirder."
Sam Coe: "Oh, just follow him. What could go wrong? Right."
Sarah Morgan: "If it's any consolation, I don't trust this man either. I'll keep an eye on him."

You can ask Hank if he regrets his actions: Do you regret what you did?

"Yeah... I know you probably don't believe me now, but I do. I messed up real bad. I was just so angry, you know? I thought it was a good idea to get back at everyone, but for what? Like it would've actually shut them down? See, the whole plan was stupid! And even if I had a better plan, what the hell was I thinking?"

Hank's FateEdit

He will take you out to the ship with the cargo, blatantly implying his plan to kill you along the way.

Once there, he will pull a gun on you, and openly announce his plan to kill you:

"Alright, that's enough. Now face me so I don't have to shoot you in the back.

Shoot me? Why?"

"You didn't think I'd just reveal my plan and then let you walk away while knowing everything did you? Damn, you're dumber than I thought.

[Attack] Yeah I knew you wanted me alone so you could kill me. Let's do this.

"Shit, you knew?!"

We don't have to do this, Hank. We can talk this through.

"No, we got a problem we can't resolve. Namely, you know too much."

Can't say how I know, but you're going to end up dead if you don't put down the gun.

"You... you seem pretty sure of that. And, I am getting kind of a freaky vibe from you. But... It's too late now, right? I don't know what to do."

If you take this opportunity to kill him now, your companions will react to it:

Andreja: "Perhaps that could still have been avoided, but he was the first to draw a weapon."
Barrett: "Sorry, Hank but... No Hanks."
Sam Coe: "You know sometimes the dirtbags can be talked down. With words... Not bullets."
Sarah Morgan: "Was that absolutely necessary? You could have at least TRIED talking to Hank before you decided to kill him."

If you don't attack him, you can attempt to persuade him to stand down:

Going to jail won't help your situation.
Failure: "Yeah, well, I'm willing to risk it to see everyone else suffer."
Success: "Maybe you're right..."
You're young. Are you really willing to risk death over this?
Failure: "What, like you're going to kill me? And if I kill you, no one will ever know."
Success: "No... I mean... You don't think they'd kill me over this, do you?"
Even if you kill me, your plan won't work the way you think it will.
Failure: "I don't care. I've got to try. I got nothing else."
Success: "Wait, you're saying everyone won't get laid off? Hmm."

It's not too late. We can take the goods back and everything will be fine.

Failure: "I don't believe you. You're gonna turn me in the second you can."
Success: "You seem pretty sure of that. You really wouldn't rat on me, huh?"
Even if your plan worked, people still won't respect you.
Failure: "So what if they don't! They'll be screwed, and I'll be millions of miles away from this dump."
Success: "Hmm. I didn't think of that. Actually... I'd never get to prove myself in that case."
Killing me won't save you. Other people suspect you're up to something.
Failure: "Not if I convince them you were behind it the whole time, newcomer. And after I kill you, I'll look like a hero."
Success: "Do they? Uh... maybe I need to rethink what I'm doing."
Can't we work something out that doesn't involve anyone dying?
Failure: "We're way past that now."
Success: "I'm listening. I'm thinking about it."
Trying to tank an entire economy because you're insecure? That's crazy.
Failure: "If you ask me, maybe it's not crazy enough! What do I care about any of them? Burn it all to the ground for all I care."
Success: "Well, when you say it like that... maybe you've got a point."
Gangster: I've known people in your shoes. This path leads to jail, or getting yourself killed.
Failure: "Screw you! The hell do you know? I'm not stupid, like your little gangbanger friends or whatever."
Success: "Hey, hold up, I'm not like them. I just got to think about this..."
Empath: I know you're angry and scared, Hank. Let's talk this through. I can help you.
Failure: "What are you, some sort of head doctor? Shut the hell up! You don't know anything about me!"
Success: "I know... I'm sorry, I didn't want it to be this way. I just... I felt like I got no other choice, you know?"
Wanted: I know what it's like to be a wanted outlaw. People will hunt you down for the rest of your life.
Failure: "Wait, really? Even if I don't go to jail?"
Success: "Either you're lying or it seems to have worked out for you so far. Can't be that bad."

If you failed to convince him, he will attack you:

"Sorry, but I gotta do this my way. And that means, you need to die."

Your companions will react to your attempt to end things diplomatically:

Andreja: "An unfortunate end for Hank, but he gave you no other option. You did what you had to do."
Barrett: "No Hanks necessary, clearly."
Sam Coe: "You gave him a chance... Maybe more than he deserved. Nothing more to be done."
Sarah Morgan: "I'm not happy with having to kill Hank, but he left us with no other choice. Sigh. What a waste."

If you successfully convinced him to stand down, he will ask you to help him:

"Agh, damn it! You're right. What the hell am I doing? This is friggin' stupid, even for me. This whole idea... I barely thought it through. I just acted because it seemed like my only shot. I really don't want to hurt anyone. I'm in too deep and I don't know what to do. I know I don't deserve it, but will you help me? Please?"

You can ask him a few questions before deciding his fate:

Where'd you even get a ship like this?
"What, just because I'm a miner, I can't have nice things? It was my old man's. He gave it to me when he got his new one. It's older and it's got some issues, but I'd been trying to fix it up in my spare time. This was my first big test run of it."

You're making me nervous. Can you please drop the gun?

"Oh, uh... yeah. Here. You take it. This was all wrong. Just... don't kill me, alright?"

How do I know I can trust you anymore?

"I don't know. I mean, I wouldn't if I were in your shoes. I can start by giving you my gun to prove I won't try to kill you. That's about all I can really do. For real, you made me see what I'm doing is wrong."

You can either choose to make up a story, or tell him to turn himself into prison:

Sure. We'll say pirates followed you to Mars and tried to steal the goods, but you fended them off.
"Hey... I like how you think. You'd really do that for me? I mean as long as they get the equipment back, no harm no foul, right? And, if they think I got it back for them, then maybe I'll finally get the respect I deserve! Yeah, I'm down for this. Let's do it."

Your companions will react to you helping Hank after his actions:

Andreja: "Lying on his behalf now will only embolden him the next time he decides to do something stupid."
Barrett: "All right, let's do this. Operation Hanks A Lot."
Sam Coe: "I mean, he doesn't deserve to be roasted over the coals... But Hank... The hero?"
Sarah Morgan: "You're going to persuade everyone that this weasel is some sort of "hero?" Ridiculous."
If you turn yourself in, I promise to tell them to go easy on you.
"I don't like it... but... you might be on to something. If I come clean, maybe they'll go easy on me, especially if you tell them what happened here. Fine... I'll do it. It's the right thing to do. And hey, at least they'll probably void my contract. Gotta look on the bright side, I guess."

Your companions will react to you sending him to jail:

Andreja: "I am not sure he deserves anyone "going easy on him," but at least you managed to keep this from becoming worse."
Barrett: "Smart move. Easier to course correct before permanent harm is done."
Sam Coe: "Pay your dues and one day you can look back on this as character building."
Sarah Morgan: "That was a smart decision. We couldn't simply let him walk away from that situation."

AftermathEdit

If you turn in Hank, you will take him to Booth for booking.

Hank here is turning himself in for the theft of mining equipment.
Hank: "It's true. I stole the brand new mining equipment that my boss ordered for us. But now that I've had some sense talked into me, I realize how shitty that is."
Booth: "You can confirm this?"

You will have an additional option to break your earlier promise to tell them to go easy on him. If you follow through, it will play out like this:

Yes sir. He admitted the crime, and gave back the supplies. No harm done.
Hank: "Again, I'm real sorry. But, I'll do the time and make things right."
Booth: "It's rare that we get a criminal turning himself in like this. And, the fact that there's no real damage to speak of is going to help his case. I'm sure those'll both be points in his favor. Good work, and thanks. Alright, let's get you booked and locked up. You've already done enough to mess things up for yourself. Don't make it any harder."
Hank: "Yeah, I know..."
Booth: "Well, chilling out in that cell will give you some time to ponder your life choices."

If you break your promise, things will go worse for Hank:

Yeah, lock him up! He was trying to ruin Deimos and Cydonia's economy.
Hank: "Hey, what the hell! I thought you were going to tell them to go easy on me, not make it sound worse!"
Booth: "You did the right thing turning him in. This guy's always seemed like trouble, and now we know for sure. It helps that he admitted to his crimes, but the punishment is sure to be harsh for this, especially with his intention of harming everyone. Thanks again. "Alright, let's get you booked and locked up. You've already done enough to mess things up for yourself. Don't make it any harder."
Hank: "Damn it, you lying... I shoulda killed you when I had the chance!"
Booth: "Oh? What's this about attempted homicide? You want to tell me more after you get situated in that cell, punk?"

If you spared Hank and lied to the miners about his actions, you can point this out to him, although he is still upset about the lack of respect he is getting:

You really owe me one. You realize that, right?
"Yeah, yeah, I know. You helped save me from myself. I thought everyone was gonna start treating me with more respect, but... that hasn't exactly happened.
Hang in there, it might take some time.
"Yeah... Maybe... We'll see. Like, I ain't gonna do anything like that again, but so far, not much has changed, so was it worth it? I dunno. I guess so.
Maybe you should think about changing your attitude.
"What's wrong with my attitude? You saying I'm the problem? Whatever... Look, I'll think about what you said, but I'm not gonna change everything about me just for these people.
Well, screw them. Just do the best you can and don't sabotage anything again.
"Yeah, you're right. Who cares what they think? I may not stick around when my contract's done anyway, so who cares, right?
