Samund Berg-Ramirez is a miner on Cydonia for Deimos Staryards Inc.

From 8PM to 5AM he can be found in the Deimos Miner Quarters. For the rest of the day he can be found working in the mine.

He wears a Miner Jacketed Jumpsuit. He also has a Deimos Spacesuit, Deimos Space Helmet, and a Deimos Tunnel for hostile conditions. He keeps a Cutter for mining on her, and a Rescue Axe for self defense. Samund has a standard amount of Credits, and can carry Aid Items.

Dialogue[edit]

"Sorry if I'm a bit surly. Rivkah's coughing kept me up all last night. Someone needs to tell her to take care of that."
"Better we do Gilly's psych evaluations than to wait until someone goes off with an industrial cutter and does who knows what."
"Life's good. I can't complain."
"Around here, people tend not to poke their noses into other people's business."
"Mining tends to attract a lot of ex-cons. It's an easy work to disappear into. I should know. Had I known that about Rivkah, she might still be here."
"People always want to know about my past. It's in the past for a reason. Let's leave it there."
"I'd take a bullet for any miner on this base."
"Been mining this red rock over 30 years. Never gets old."

While at the Community Center, he will have different greetings:

"Hey uh... maybe not the best time."
"Kinda in the middle of something here."
"Not really able to chat right now."
"You wanna have a seat and listen in, you're welcome. Just don't go blabbing about it anywhere else."
"Sorry, got a lot on my mind."

If you stop speaking mid-conversation, he will say:

"Something going on?"
"Hello? Anybody home?"
"Hey uh... everything alright?"

He will end conversations by saying:

"Adios."
"Later."
"Have a good one."

You can converse with Samund The first time you speak to him he will have a special greeting:

"Whoa, hold on there. Are you supposed to be down here? You could get hurt without proper safety training."
It's okay. I've done mining work before, with Argos. I know how to be safe.
"Oh... Argos. Didn't know anyone actually survived their operations. Nah, I'm just messing with you. I know Argos. They're good people. Their safety record's actually pretty good. Could stand to beef up their security, I hear, but that's neither here nor there."
I'm not not-supposed to be here.
"Yeah, didn't think so. Don't worry, I'm not gonna rat you out or anything. I just want to keep an eye out for anyone doing anything stupid. Be smart, and we'll have nothing to worry about."
I'm doing some work for your boss, Trevor.
"Ah. Well, if Trevor gave you clearance, that's good enough for me. Just be safe and watch your step around here."
Gilly from Deimos corporate sent me down here.
"Ah, say no more. That's good enough for me. Just be sure to watch your step. There's dangerous stuff laying around."
I go where I want.
"Oh, you do, do ya? Must think you're pretty tough. Well, you got guts, and I admire that, but it won't get you as far as you think."

Regardless of the previous option, he will then continue:

"I'm Samund. Not Sammy, not Sam. Samund. I don't do nicknames. I've been with Deimos for what seems like forever. So, what I'm saying is, if you have questions, no one here knows these mines better than I do."

After the greeting, you will have a few options for conversation:

Someone was telling me about the Heart of Mars. What do you know about it?
"All I know is that it's bad news, and if you go out looking for it, you're going to have a bad time. Seriously, just trust me on this one. Forget you heard anything about it and move on. It's not worth your trouble."
You ever think about retirement?
"Yeah, I get it, I'm old. To answer your question though, no. This is the life for me, and I'm going to do it until I'm dead, or I can't do it anymore, whichever comes first."
What can you tell me about yourself.
"Not much. Been mining this rock for longer than anyone: going on thirty years now. And, before you ask, I don't talk about my life before that."
So you have a dark, secret past?
"I do, and it's going to stay that way since I don't have any reason to trust you yet.

(Red Tape missions finished)

"Look, normally I wouldn't tell anyone, but I heard from Trevor how you helped us all out. The short answer is that I was a troubled kid. I stole. I accidentally got someone killed. I went to jail for a while, then came out all reformed. Most of the other miners have no idea, and I'd like to keep it that way. And, it's fun to hear what kind of crazy theories they come up with. Like, did you know I was a spy sent by House Va'ruun to steal secrets from Deimos? Ridiculous stuff like that."

Conversations[edit]

While attending community meetings, he will converse with Joy Bryant and Horus Gamal:

Samund: "I could use your guidance. I'm having those dreams again... It's making it hard to sleep."
Joy: "Of course, we can talk about it if you'd like."
Samund: "Yeah... I think I'd like that."
Horus: "You know, my offer stands as well. If you wish to confess your sins before God, all will be forgiven."
Samund: "Uh... thanks, that's okay. I'm not really into the Sanctum Universum thing. I'd rather talk to Joy."
Joy: "I've got this, Horus. He came to me this time."
Horus: "I know, I just thought... given his past and what this is about, maybe he could use some divine forgiveness."
Samund: "Hey, you know what? I think I'm good. Maybe I'll come back after you both handle whatever you need to sort out."
Joy: "I'm sorry. We'll be here if you need us."
