Romance is an option in Starfield to take your relation with a companion to a romantic level. There are (currently) only 4 such companions available.

How[edit]

To romance a companion, take them with you everywhere. To raise their affinity, do things that agree with their personalities. This mainly pertains to dialogue choices and event actions (killing someone, sparing their life, etc).

The use of the Paramour consumable will also increase the affinity gained by your companion for 10 minutes.

It is worth noting, the game time-gates many interactions that further the romance option. If you feel stuck, simply give it some time and proceed with other things.

As their affinity rises, they will want to talk. These talks also provide dialogue options for [Flirt]. Selecting any of these will indicate romantic interest.

For players with the Empath trait, choosing answers that they like or love will temporarily improve your combat and persuasion. Instead of flirting, it is usually better to choose these answers. This will also increase affinity more quickly.

As their affinity rises even further, their story mission will be unlocked. They will become mandatory followers until that mission is completed. No other companion will follow you during this time.

Once you have completed their respective story mission, more dialogue options will include [Friendship] or [Romance]. Note that romance is possible without ever having flirted.

This is immediately followed by a talk with the [Commitment] dialogue option. By this point, your affinity should be high enough that they will say yes to your marriage proposal.

After more time, they will approach you for a marriage mission.

  • Likes: Jokes, helping others, science, and philanthropy.
  • Dislikes: Pushing sensitive topics, murder, intimidation, and cheating.
  • Story Mission: Breach of Contract

  • Likes: Kindness, empathy, Constellation, leadership, and helping those in need.
  • Dislikes: Lying, stealing, murder, extortion, and betrayal.
  • Story mission: In Memoriam
