A list of random events

Ship Landing Site[edit]

  • A captain with a defective grav drive who had to land to fix his ship. You can talk to him, but it seems you can't assist him.
  • A ship transporting colonists. The ship was forced to land due to engine trouble, and the captain will request ship parts.
  • A ship transporting colonists. Fleeing from a Va'Ruun attack on their home planet, they did not bring enough water. The captain will request water. Drink Pack: Water or Sparkling Water will work, Distilled Water or the resource Water will not.
  • A merchant with a pet alien creature. She explains that she noticed the player landing and followed them to see if they wanted to buy anything.
  • A Spacer, Crimson Fleet, Ecliptic, or House Va'ruun ship lands and disgorges multiple hostile personnel who appear to be scouting the area. The ship will depart soon afterward.

In Space / Ship encounters[edit]

  • A lone ship that is non-hostile and does not hail the player. May belong to the United Colonies, Freestar Collective, Trade Authority, or GalBank. When the player hails them, they can ask to trade, demand they hand over their cargo, ask for information about their respective faction, or ask for any interesting news.
  • A battle between United Colonies or Freestar Collective forces and Spacers, the Crimson Fleet, Ecliptic, or House Va'ruun. After the battle, if there are any UC or Freestar ships still intact, they will hail the player and offer them ship parts or credits as a reward for helping them out.
  • Between one and four jettisoned cargo crates containing random resources.
  • Mrs. Whitmore Class Fieldtrip: Mrs. Whitmore, a teacher on a field trip with her class in an old, malfunctioning ship. She asks the player for 10 ship parts to repair the grav drive.
  • Delivery Truck: Disabled Star Parcel Freighter with an urgent delivery. The engine is damaged and company policy forbids allowing non-employees to board and help with repairs, so the player is asked to deliver the shipment in return for credits.
  • Extended Warranty: An unknown ship whose pilot wants to sell the player a new warranty for their own ship. The player can purchase a policy, decline the offer, or try to attack, but the unknown ship will jump away before it can be damaged.
  • Dr. Sohla Banglawala from MAST's under-funded geology department. She is conducting a geological survey and asks for rare geological samples to contribute.
  • Grandmother, a friendly traveler who invites the player into her ship for dinner.
  • Party Cruise: A party ship. The captain invites the player to join in the festivities. Once aboard, the captain lets the player decide whether to turn off the ship's gravity. A bartender on the lower deck will sell beverages.
  • The Valentine, a man of Irish descent who will sing a space-themed sea shanty before jumping away. The player can compliment or criticize his singing.
  • A UC Vanguard trainee who asks the player if they need assistance, and relies heavily on his notes.
  • A student ship pilot whose instructor has suffered a seizure. The instructor is unconscious, and the student has lost control of the ship and does not know how to shut down the engines. The player can chase the ship, disable the engines with weapon fire, and then board to provide medical assistance to the instructor.
  • A UC Dagger ship that has been hijacked by Spacers. The Spacers pretend to be UC officers who have detected contraband aboard the player's ship and offer to overlook the infraction if the player pays a fine. The player can pay or call their bluff and attack.
  • A trio of Crimson Fleet or Ecliptic ships attempt to extort credits from the player. They can be paid to avoid combat, or attacked.
  • A bickering husband and wife who are lost and ask the player for directions. The player can side with the husband and say the destination is ahead of them, side with the wife and say they passed it, or refuse to get involved.
  • A prankster. When hailed, the pilot will prank the player by asking if they know the way to Uranus, then immediately leave.
  • Another prankster. He will hail the player, only to behave as though the player hailed him first. After a circular argument over who hailed who, the prankster will proclaim "My work here is done," and jump away.
  • The Mysterious Captain. She will wish the player good luck and claim they will meet again in the future, but refuse to elaborate.
  • A tour ship with an armed escort. The harried tour guide hails the player so her passengers can ask questions about what it is like to be an independent ship owner. The first passenger asks if ship piloting is glamorous, the second asks about the player's wealth and relationship status, the third asks the player for a political opinion, and the fourth asks if the player has a lover in every port.
  • A Sanctum Universum ship showing Universals the stars. The pilot remarks that most of her passengers have never been to space before, and asks the player if they have ever had a spiritual experience while traveling in space.
  • An indulging father hails the player so his young daughter can sell lemonade. The player can purchase the lemonade, but it turns out to be orange juice because the father did not have any lemons or sugar aboard.
  • A UC, Freestar, or corporate transport ship hails the player and warns of hostile ships in the system.
  • Between one and three Starborn Guardian ships appear and immediately attack the player.
  • An automated mineral survey ship asking if the player is there to collect their results. If the player responds in the affirmative, the ship will provide some inorganic resources and leads on where to find more.
  • A Spacer Raven. If he sees that the player is the Mantis, he offers credits. Depending on the player's reaction more credits can be squeezed from the deal and even his last shirt.
  • A LIST colonist ship in distress. The ship's aging grav drive has stopped working, but if the player can provide 20 units of iron, the colonists can make some temporary repairs. If the player cannot provide the iron, the ship's captain will explain that the iron can be brought to her anytime since the ship is stranded. However, the ship does not appear to persist once the player departs the area.
  • A Merchant Freighter that is attacked by Spacers. If the player is the Mantis the pilot and co-pilot will recognize that if the player communications with them after the fight. A decision must be made whether or not to ask for a reward.
  • Naeva Mora in her ship Astraea (requires that the player has previously completed the Crimson Fleet storyline and sided with UC SysDef). Naeva will hail the player and berate them for destroying the Crimson Fleet, then attack.
  • A Kepler R (requires that the player has previously completed Overdesigned and helped create the Kepler R ship). The player can hail the ship and mention that they helped design it, and the pilot will respond by disparaging the Kepler R and the player's ship design skills.

On the ground[edit]

  • A miner at a mine who protects his find from the player.
  • A colonist at a cave (if you pick 'Nice View' it ends the conversation, didn't get to try the trade question)
  • A PIO with a squad of UC marines including a captain you defends the PIO (Observation Deck) from an Attack (Robot Model S)
  • Family in Need: Two people named Chris and Tyra ask the player for medicine.
  • A Terrormorph fighting with Ecliptis soldiers.
  • A Terrormorph fighting with local fauna.
