Biography[edit]

Meeting the Great Serpent[edit]

In 2190, a colony ship that departed from New Atlantis disappeared. During one of the ship's many Grav Jumps, one of the passengers, Jinan Va’ruun, claimed to have spent the time communing with a celestial entity known as the Great Serpent, what was only a few seconds for everyone else felt much longer for him, and he brought back a mandate. One that stated that they should follow him or be devoured when the Great Serpent encircles the universe. This compelled Jinan to found House Va’ruun which then proceeded to isolate itself from the settled systems, making its existence unknown.

The Pilgrim[edit]

At some point in Jinan Va’ruun’s life, he met a mysterious stranger called the Pilgrim, who gave him a false prophecy. Janin's conviction in the Great Serpent was such, however, that he cut the Pilgrim down without hesitation. Despite that, the Pilgrim returned, Jinan thought this to be a test of the Great Serpent, and he would not be found to back away from the challenge. In total, they fought four times in over one hundred and twenty planetary rotations. “Remember these four battles, Jinan,” The Pilgrim said. “remember these one-hundred and twenty rotations” Jinan, seeing this as blasphemy, delivered the killing blow on the Pilgrim.

First Contact[edit]

In 2230 Jinan Va’ruun ordered House Va’ruun to reveal themself, the first vessel to make contact with the settled systems was their flagship, The Mourning. House Va’ruun made initial gestures of peace towards the rest of the Settled Systems, claiming that their only intention was to spread the words of the Great Serpent; this, however, did not hold.

The Serpent’s Crusade[edit]

In 2240 House Va’ruun declared all-out war on the rest of Human civilization, starting the ‘’Serpent’s Crusade’’. The war lasted for twenty-three years, resulting in thousands of Freestar, UC, and independent souls being killed by agents of House Va’ruun in the name of their Serpent god. House Va’ruun also destroyed significant installations like the Den during their assaults in the Serpent's Crusade. It was only when Jinan Va’ruun died, and his son Jarek Va’ruun succeeded him, that House Va’ruun made attempts to pursue peace with the Settled Systems. Going as far as to open an embassy in New Atlantis to show their intentions of making up for their actions in the bloody conflict.

The results of the Serpent's Crusade left most within the Settled Systems fearful and untrusting towards the people of House Va’ruun. It did not help that some rogue zealots refused to recognize the cessation of hostility and continued attacking any non-believer they came across unofficially continuing the Serpent's Crusade. Jinan Va'ruun was buried within the Scaled Citadel located in the hidden city of Dazra, on Va’ruun’kai.
