The Mourning (Formally known as The Archimedes) was the flagship of House Va'ruun. was a heavily modified former Colony Ship, She was used in 2230 when House Va'ruun made contact for the first time with the Settled Systems.

The ship was decommissioned by 2299 and a piece of its hull was donated to the House Va'ruun Embassy. It was later returned to Dazra.

History

The Archimedes

In 2190, A colony ship Archimedes, which had departed from New Atlantis, vanished during a final Grav Jump from Mars into deep space.

in 2191, the Archimedes arrived in the uncharted Kavnyk System. One of its passengers, Jinan Va'ruun, reported a transformative experience during the final Grav Jump, claiming to have communicated with a celestial entity he later identified as the Great Serpent. He asserted that what had seemed like mere seconds for the other passengers felt like an eternity for him. Following this revelation, Va'ruun presented a mandate urging colonists to follow him or face annihilation when the Great Serpent encircles the universe in an event he called "the Shrouding." This proclamation garnered him a devoted following.

The Mourning

In 2230, the heavily modified Archimedes reemerged in the Volii System under the new designation Mourning, serving as the flagship of House Va'ruun. During this time. House Va'ruun claimed that their only intention was to spread the word of the Great Serpent. Diplomatic relations were initiated with major factions and corporations, while House Va'ruun covertly amassed intelligence, weapons, warriors, and ships in preparation for the upcoming crusade.

The ship was decommissioned by 2299. Within the House Va'ruun embassy in New Atlantis, a piece of its hull was donated as a symbol of the great works House Va'ruun had achieved in its time. By 2330 it was returned to Dazra by direct order of Anasko Va'ruun
