The Mourning was the flagship of House Va'ruun. She was used in 2230 when House Va’ruun made contact for the first time with the Settled Systems. The ship was decommissioned by 2299 and a piece of its hull was donated to the House Va’ruun Embassy. It was later returned to Dazra.

When House Va’ruun revealed itself to the settled systems in 2230 they emerged using their flagship, The Mourning. Initially making peaceful gestures to the rest of the Settled Systems, House Va’ruun claimed that their only intention was to spread the word of the Great Serpent.
The ship was decommissioned by 2299. Within the House Va’ruun embassy in New Atlantis, a piece of its hull was donated as a symbol of the great works House Va’ruun had achieved in its time. By 2330 it was returned to Dazra by direct order of Anasko Va'ruun
