The Serpent’s Crusade was a conflict that started in 2240, in which House Va'ruun waged war against the rest of human civilization and ultimately killed thousands in the name of their Serpent god. The conflict ended when Jinan Va'ruun died in 2263 and his son Jarek Va’ruun took over in which he sued for peace and elected to establish an embassy in New Atlantis. However, rogue agents, know as Va’ruun Zealots continued to attack non-believers. Ultimately the Serpent's Crusade left the Settled Systems fearful and suspicious of House Va'ruun and their beliefs.

History[edit]

The Crusade[edit]

In the year 2240, House Va’ruun declared all-out war on the rest of Human civilization, thus starting the ‘’Serpent’s Crusade’’. The Crusade lasted twenty-three years and resulted in thousands of Freestar, UC, and Independent settlers being killed mercilessly by agents of House Va’ruun in the name of their Serpent god. During the conflict, House Va’ruun destroyed significant installations of the impacted factions such as the Den and various smaller settlements. The Serpent’s Crusade came to a resolution in 2263 when the then-leader of House Va’ruun, Jinan Va’ruun died, resulting in his son Jarek Va’ruun succeeding him. Upon the succession, Jarek called for an end to the conflict, which not all Va’ruun combatants adhered to, while also suing for peace with the Settled Systems. As a result of this House Va’ruun committed to an embassy based in New Atlantis in an attempt to begin making amends for the bloody conflict whilst the Va’ruun combatants that refused to stop the conflict were branded ‘Zealots’.

The Aftermath[edit]

The Settled Systems grew largely fearful of House Va’ruun due to the Serpent’s Crusade which left most untrusting and suspicious towards those of House Va’ruun. The rogue operatives, who were labeled ‘Zealots’, did not help this stigmatization towards House Va’ruun as they continued to refuse their orders of ‘cessation of all hostility’ instead choosing to continue assaulting any nonbeliever that they came across without mercy or cause believing themselves to be serving the Great Serpent’s will by continuing the Crusade.

There was a movie ‘’Inside the Viper’s Nest’’ which claims to have utilized archival footage of the actual Crusade. City Guards may mention that the Great Serpent ‘’ain’t a snake.. It’s a celestial being.. Is it real? Damned if I know, but they think it is and that makes them dangerous.’’ this shows the effects of the Crusade in which the people of the Settled Systems have been made aware of the House's faith in some capacity.

Notes[edit]

  • There is a unique variant of the Inside the Viper’s Nest Movie Poster, within Ambassador Qasrik Bal’mor's quarters situated within the Va’ruun Embassy in New Atlantis in which a crown has been scribbled onto the woman's face.
