NASA (also known as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) was the space exploration organization that invented the Grav Drive. NASA was founded by the United States in 1958 in order to compete with the Soviet Union's space program. NASA launched its first astronaut into space in 1961, made the first successful manned landing on the Moon in 1969, and completed the first manned grav jump in 2141.
Between 2138 and 2158, NASA developed the Grav Drive in partnership with civilian contractor Nova Galactic. After the public discovery of Earth's decaying magnetosphere, NASA became involved with the United Colonies and its effort to resettle humanity on Jemison. NASA went defunct with the final collapse of Earth's magnetosphere in 2203.
In addition to its work on the Grav Drive, NASA was also responsible for the development of the Titan Astrobase, later known as New Homestead, on Titan, which it established in 2130 to search for microbial life. This mission eventually failed in 2185, after which NASA pulled out of the project.
