Starfield Mod:Starfield Creation Kit
The Starfield Creation Kit is a Windows application which can be downloaded for free from the Steam platform and requires an installation of Starfield on the same drive volume for successful launch. It allows users to edit Starfield game data files, make adjustments to game settings and/or create new content for the game. Modifications made in the Creation Kit can be exported as master files, which are compatible with the game and will alter the game world and/or gameplay when activated.
It is an updated version of the Creation Kit released for previous Bethesda Game Studios titles, Fallout 4 and Skyrim. It was used by developers to create Starfield game content and released in an updated form on 9 June 2024 for use by the public.
Overview[edit]
The Starfield Creation Kit has 12 menus, over 60 icons in a strip below the menus (which display tooltips when the cursor is positioned over them), and numerous tool windows and dialogue boxes. The visibility of tool windows can be toggled (in the "View" and "Docks" menus). Windows can be resized, repositioned and docked with one another. Window layouts can be saved and recalled in the Docks menu.
Menus[edit]
File Menu[edit]
Mod "plugin" files can be loaded and saved in File>Data.
The Data Window also allows plugins to be associated with "master" game data files essential for mod functionality. At a minimum the "Starifield.esm" master file must be loaded before saving a mod plugin.
If game assets from other master files are required for a mod to function, they must also be loaded before saving the plugin. For example, SFBGS006.esm contains the Empty Ship Habs update and is required for mods that make use of them. When loading a saved mod plugin, it should be selected in the Data Window and "Set as Active File" before selecting "OK". It is not necessary to select Starfield.esm after saving for the first time; it will be loaded automatically The application preferences are accessible in this menu, but also as an icon.
Mod plugin files can be exported to master files from this menu.
Tool Windows[edit]
Render Window[edit]
The Render Window is the primary editing space for adding and positioning game content in cells. It displays a three dimensional view of loaded cell(s) and can be configured to display render features such as anti-aliasing, lighting and weather effects, and also types of objects, such as categories of static objects and markers and objects added to specific layers.
Loaded Cell(s) can be navigated in the Render window using the mouse and keyboard, and objects positioned within it.
Multiple Render windows can be opened simultaneously, but only one active for editing at a time. “Renders” –objects from a cell that have been copied - can pasted into another cell loaded into a different Render window.
[edit]
The Render window must be clicked on to activate after any cell is opened.
The initial viewpoint when opening a cell is from the top looking down into the cell. To help with spatial orientation selecting "View>Packin>Ground Plane" will add a textured “ground” surface that will extend at 0 height in all directions.
SHIFT+Mouse movement to rotate the view around the current position.
SHIFT+W, A, S D keys to move forward, backwards and side to side inside the cell. Mouse movements can be used to pan the camera up down, left or right when in motion.
Rolling the Mouse wheel changes the velocity of “WASD” movement; roll back to increase speed and forward to increase.
SHIFT+F will reset the Render Window view
Adding and Selecting Forms[edit]
Forms can be dragged from the Object window into the Render Window to position and edit them.
