Shattered Space Release Time — September 30, 2024[edit]
The first major expansion to Starfield is set to release today. Shattered Space received a timezone release map directly from Bethesda (pictured), with it scheduled for release at 11am ET.
We are getting ready to datamine this game, and should hopefully have a good chunk of the preliminary pages on Shattered Space created even later today!
Update October 02: Current progress, basic pages made for NPCs, armor, weapons, and books for Shattered Space.
Update 1.14.68 Beta Begins — September 17, 2024[edit]
A new update to Starfield has just started its beta period on Steam. Update 1.1.4.68 brings with it numerous fixes, perhaps most notably a claimed fix on the bug limiting Creations to just 255.

Starfield: Shattered Space Deep Dive released — September 16, 2024[edit]
A deep dive for upcoming Shattered Space expansion has been released.
This deep dive goes into depth about; Va'ruun'kai, it's capital city Dazra, a massive vortex that has swallowed huge chunks of the city, and challenges the player will encounter throughout the expansion.
The expansion is a completely self-contained experience, and it never sends you off world, it entirely takes place on this new, handcrafted planet.

QuakeCon 2024 Begins — August 8, 2024[edit]
QuakeCon is going on right now until August 11th. QuakeCon is an annual convention that started as a dedicated fan convention and lan party for id Software, as well as other ZeniMax properties after id Software's acquisition. The convention derives its name from the Quake series, one of id's main franchises.
The physical event is being held in Grapevine, Texas, but an accompanying sale on franchises under ZeniMax's umbrella is currently going on. You can find the official store sale hub here, although there are separate sales being held on individual digital stores simultaneously. Unlike the physical convention, the sale is set to continue until the 21st.

Starfield: Shattered Space Trailer Released — June 9, 2024[edit]
The official trailer for Shattered Space, an upcoming expansion to Starfield, has been revealed. Shattered Space will heavily involve House Va'ruun, and take you to the city of Dazra on their homeworld.
After discovering an unknown space station filled with dead bodies and a mysterious substance seemingly growing throughout it, the player standing hears "Save Anasko", "Restore the Citadel", "This is the Serpent's will", and "Dazra has fallen". The player is then attacked by a strange alien creature. The trailer then cuts to Dazra, where the player is told they are trespassing, and they will be tested by the Great Serpent.

Starfield June Patch and Creation Kit Release — June 9, 2024[edit]
During the Xbox Showcase segment on Starfield on Shattered Space, Bethesda also dedicated some time to announce that the June patch was releasing that very night. The patch brought with it Creations and the Creation Kit, which also brought modding to the Xbox version of the game.
The update includes new content for the Trackers Alliance, including new special bounties. Your Scanner will also gain the ability to detect bounties, allowing you to plan your attack or means of capture before confronting them. This ties into the previously mentioned Creations, with one of the new Creations being a special bounty, "The Vulture".
Melee weapons received further attention, with new ones added. Additionally, modifications are now available for your melee weapons.

Starfield's March Patch Announced — March 1, 2024[edit]
March will see an update to Starfield that primarily focuses on bug fixes and quality of life improvements. New to Starfield are modifiable expressions for you and companions while in photo mode, along with some new poses for Vasco. As for QOL, this update will bring with it the ability to open doors harvest resources while using the scanner. The final QOL change listed is that setting course to an inactive mission's location will now activate it automatically.
A few bug fixes were listed with the initial announcement, and more were added in answer to user questions:
- A fix for David Barron being missing during Sabotage will be included.
- Your head turning left while sprinting will be corrected.
- Issues with Starborn temples not appearing will be addressed.
- Fixes for War Relics are coming, particularly Kaiser not spawning.
- A door remaining locked during The Audition will be fixed.
- A fix is included for Zealot ships not appearing during Divided Loyalties.
- A door remaining locked during Operation Starseed has been confirmed to be fixed.
- All That Money Can Buy not starting if the Ryujin Industries questline was already completed is fixed.

Starfield 1.9.5.1.0 Update — January 30, 2024[edit]
The January 30th update for Starfield is the largest post-launch update to the game yet. It brings with it a major overhaul of lighting in the game, along with numerous bug fixes and modifications to the game. The next update should fully release within six weeks, which is the current plan for major patches for the game, with a beta period on Steam in between.

Starfield Officially Released — September 05, 2023[edit]
Starfield Enters Early Access — August 31, 2023[edit]
After many years of waiting and speculation, Starfield is finally playable by the public through its early access program. The game fully releases on September 6th at midnight UTC.
Starfield Preloading Begins Tomorrow on Xbox/PC, August 30th for Steam — August 16, 2023[edit]
Starfield will begin allowing preloads of the game. Starting tomorrow, August 17th, the game will be available to preload on Xbox consoles and on PC. Steam will also allow preloading, but at a later date on the 30th. The game will then be playable on August 31st at 8PM EST with the Premium Edition, and on September 5th at 8PM EST for Standard Edition copies. Although it is not clear at this time, the Steam release may go for midnight on September 1st and September 6th for Premium and Stardard Editions, respectively.
Starfield Timeline Revealed — August 14, 2023[edit]
The official Starfield website has added a timeline with events from 2050 to 2330. It can be viewed by scrolling to the bottom of the page.
Todd Howard Discusses Starfield in Interview on the Kinda Funny XCast — June 22, 2023[edit]
Todd Howard was interviewed for episode 143 of the Kinda Funny XCast, where he answered fan-submitted questions about Starfield. Key points included:
- The way accessibility was built into the game.
- Details on character creation, skills, and backgrounds.
- That fishing will not be available in the game.
- The proportion of planets with life, and how to strike a balance between making the game feel too full and gamey, and too empty and boring.
- Diversity of exploration: planets will have varying number of biomes with different lifeforms.
- Companions: the 4 Constellation companions have the most fleshed out quest lines and are romanceable.
- The role of music in atmospheric game design.
- Spaceship and outpost building: these are both intended to be deep systems but late game activities.
- Many missions are hand-crafted, while others are procedurally generated.

Bethesda Accepting Requests for Creator Keys — June 16, 2023[edit]
Bethesda has begun accepting requests for keys for Starfield from creators. The keys will be distributed at the beginning of the early access window, September 1st. In addition, public social media posts announcing this have been created, with additional recommendations for who to talk to in which region, and how to improve the chances of getting a key.
You can see the Keymailer page here. Although the page says the keys will be provided on September 6th, a statement in the previously mentioned public posts have clarified they will actually begin distribution on September 1st.
"Every QA Person" Working on Starfield — June 11, 2023[edit]
In an interview with Giant Bomb, Phil Spencer stated that according to Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios, "every QA person in our entire company playing Starfield right now." Whether this means just the Xbox division or Microsoft as a whole is unclear. The QA testers are trying to help tackle as many bugs and help improve the game's quality as much as possible before launch. Matt Booty, who also took part in the interview, supported the statement and said his teams were working very hard with Bethesda on it. He expanded upon the claim by saying that Starfield will have "the fewest bugs that any game Bethesda has ever shipped" if it were to ship even today.
The lengthy interview touched on many topics related to Xbox. Other notable remarks specifically related to Starfield from the interview include:
- The primary change from Bethesda's previous status after it was acquired is their increased access to the Advanced Technology Group, in charge of fine tuning performance for the Xbox.
- The strategy for Game Pass takes more in consideration in selling Game Pass subscriptions and Xbox consoles over the sales lost by having the game available cheaply through a subscription service. It was expanded upon that this was similar to the consideration to make a game exclusive to Xbox or not in previous generations.
- They expect that Starfield will be the biggest game launch Bethesda has ever done in terms of players.
- They believe that Starfield and Forza will fill out a good portion of their playerbase's gaming time for the remainder of 2023.
- They claim that the decision for the game to be locked to thirty frames per second on the console came down to Bethesda's artistic preferences. As a brand Xbox does not want to force specific specs for resolution and frame rate upon their developers.
- Phil Spencer believes the Starfield presentation is the biggest deep dive onto a single game they've ever done.

Todd Howard discusses his future with IGN — June 11, 2023[edit]
Todd Howard has done a second major interview with IGN for Starfield, almost a year after the last one. The interview heavily focused on his future plans. Some major points from the interview included:
- Todd Howard confirmed that the game will be locked to a 4K resolution at thirty frames per second on the Xbox Series X. On the Series S it will be 1440p at thirty frames per second.
- The Elder Scrolls VI may be the last TES game he makes before the end of his career, but he is not sure.
- He revisited his previous statement on Fallout 5, saying while it will be made after 'The Elder Scrolls VI, he is not entirely positive when it will be created.
- He said their support period for the game will be much longer. This was after a comment asking about the plans for a sequel to Starfield, which he could not provide an answer for at this time.
- Todd Howard revealed that Skyrim has sold more than 60 million copies.
- Starfield has more dialogue than Skyrim and Fallout 4 combined.

Xbox Showcase and Starfield Direct — June 11, 2023[edit]
The Xbox Showcase and Starfield Direct premiered on June 11th. Beyond the game trailers and announcements in the first hour for Xbox as a whole, the second hour was dedicated solely to Starfield. It featured a deep dive into gameplay, including lengthy segments spotlighting multiple game systems. Although many things were discussed, the particular segments included dedicated time for the main story, character creation, the skill system, ships, companions, flying in space, exploration, outpost construction, and combat. There was also time dedicated to custom physical items made for the game, such as a custom Xbox controller and headset, the Chronomark watch, and its case.
Perhaps one of the most surprising announcements was that the game would have an early access period for the Premium and Constellation editions of the game, with up to five days early access creating a soft release date of September 1, 2023, 82 days from the current date. The standard edition will still release on the previously announced date of September 6.

Starfield Release Date Set to September 6, 2023 — March 8, 2023[edit]
Following an extended period with almost no news on Starfield, the new release date has finally been revealed to be September 6, 2023. Additionally, the previously announced Starfield Direct is going to be held on June 11, 2023, creating approximately a three month window between the game's primary show and its release. The announcement was made alongside a new trailer for the game, presenting numerous CGI shots mixed with scenes from Bethesda's offices.

Todd Howard Discusses Starfield in IGN Interview — June 14, 2022[edit]
Following off on the heels of the Official Gameplay Reveal, Todd Howard held an interview with IGN to discuss some of the burning questions the demonstration generated. This fifteen minute interview used its time well, and covered a lot of ground in that time. Here is a quick summary of some of the major answers:
- They expected people to be surprised by the comment about how many planets are present and explorable. Todd Howard said they might do a deep dive to explain it more.
- Todd Howard went over Bethesda's history with procedural generation and discussed how it is used to help create their worlds, using Skyrim's quests and landscape as an example. He also compared choosing to explore the procedural-generated portions of planets to Daggerfall's gameplay.
- The technical difference between having a single explorable planet and a thousand is minuscule once the systems for the first one are created.
- There is more handcrafted content in this game than any previous Bethesda game. For example, there is over 200,000 recorded voice lines.
- Ship combat will be more slow paced, and draws inspiration from Mech Warrior and FTL for their power management gameplay.
- You can act as a smuggler.
- You can visit star stations.
- You can disable, board, and steal enemy ships.
- Backgrounds are reminiscent to classes from previous games, and there are around twenty in total. As was demonstrated before, your background will have some unique dialogue related to it.
- Players will have a set starting point for all players, with a "step out" moment like previous games.
- New Atlantis is the biggest city in Starfield, as well as the largest Bethesda has ever built. Constellation also keeps their headquarters there.
- Besides exploration and answer the mysteries of the universe, Constellation also deals with recovering "Old Earth artifacts".
- Todd described the main story being about 20% than previous games, although said it was still not fully set in stone. To explain further, he said that if the normal length of time for completing the main quest in their previous games was 25 hours, Starfield would be about 30 hours or possibly 40 hours. This did not include faction and side quest lines.
- He expects modders will be very pleased with the possibilities of the game.
- You cannot fly directly to the surface to a planet's surface. Gameplay is divided between ground and space segments, as the amount of work needed to do a seamless transition between the two was seen as a waste of available resources.
- As expected, Fallout 5 will be the game they work on after The Elder Scrolls VI.

Starfield Gameplay Reveal — June 12, 2022[edit]
The Xbox and Bethesda Showcase started and ended with upcoming Bethesda games. Redfall opened the show, and a fifteen minute presentation on Starfield ended it. The Starfield presentation provided a plethora of information on the game, including basic story information, a preview of the major factions, foot and ship combat, crafting, outposts, and the size of the game.

Starfield Delayed — May 12, 2022[edit]
Bethesda has announced today via Twitter that Starfield has been delayed until the first half of 2023. Originally slated for release on November 11, 2022, the game's release date has been pushed out to allow for more development time.
Into the Starfield - The Sound of Adventure Released — April 26, 2022[edit]
The third numbered documentary video in the Into the Starfield series was The Sound of Adventure. In a departure from the previous entries and introduction video, this video focuses on sound design.

Into the Starfield - Made for Wanderers Released — March 16, 2022[edit]
The second numbered documentary video in the Into the Starfield series was Made for Wanderers. The video continued to discuss Bethesda's approach to their games, while also breaking into more direct conversation about the game itself. Various factions were discussed, such as the United Colonies, Ryujin Industries, Freestar Collective, and the Crimson Fleet.

Painting a Journey Through Space Video Released With Giveaway — February 19, 2022[edit]
The Official Bethesda YouTube Account has released a new Starfield video in the buildup to the game's release later this year. The video depicts the artist Mike Butkus creating the "Journey Through Space" piece that has previously been seen in a few of the early promotional materials. Besides the video, Bethesda also announced a contest to win a print of the featured artwork. By "joining Constellation", signing up for the official Starfield newsletter before March 31st, you will be entered for a chance to win a print signed by Mike Butkus and Game Director Todd Howard. If you had signed up previously, you are automatically entered into the contest without needing to do anything else.

The next documentary video on the Starfield was Into the Starfield - The Endless Pursuit. The video goes into length discussing Bethesda's philosophy towards their games.

Bethesda Releases Multiple Videos Introducing Major Locations — August 27, 2021[edit]
Continuing the effort to provide more information on the game, Bethesda released three videos on major locations in Starfield. The videos covered Akila City, Neon, and New Atlantis, three of the four major cities in the game.

Edit: A similar video was released on October 22nd, although it was not officially labeled as a Location Insight video. This video served as an introduction into the wider setting of The Settled Systems.
Bethesda Begins Video Series on Starfield — June 14, 2021[edit]
Instead of returning to the previous silence on the game, Bethesda followed up their teaser trailer with a short introductory documentary piece on the ongoing development of Starfield the day after. The video features narration from Todd Howard on Bethesda's past and their desire to create a game like this, and how the opportunity to create Starfield only recently arose with new technology.

Following up on years of almost total radio silence on the game, Bethesda has released a teaser trailer for Starfield during their 2021 E3 Showcase. The teaser claims to be alpha gameplay in the Creation Engine 2. The two minute video gave a walkthrough of the Constellation Starship Frontier preparing to launch. The trailer would introduce many basic details about Starfield, such as the Constellation organization, the Frontier, Vasco, and basic details about the story to investigate a recent discovery.

Starfield Officially Announced — June 10, 2018[edit]
After many years of speculation, Bethesda officially announced Starfield on June 10th, 2018. The game was revealed with a very short Announcement Teaser Trailer.
Bethesda has a long history with sci-fi games set in space. One early attempt was a failed attempt to created a game based on Traveller that eventually released as Delta V. Another early effort was a space combat game called The 10th Planet, which was cancelled before its release. Bethesda would have the rights to create games for the Star Trek franchise for a time, during which they published Star Trek: Legacy, Star Trek: Encounters, Star Trek: Tactical Assault, and Star Trek: Conquest. Todd Howard claimed that he pitched a Star Trek RPG during this time, but it was ultimately turned down. The idea for Starfield spent several years coalescing before ZeniMax moved to trademark it in 2013.

Starfield Trademarked — March 22, 2013[edit]
ZeniMax filed for a trademark for Starfield on March 22nd, 2013. The trademark covered "Computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles; downloadable computer game software offered via the Internet and wireless devices; computer game software for use with on-line interactive games, clothing, namely, T-shirts, shirts, sweatshirts, pants, jackets, fleece pullovers; headwear, namely, hats; footwear, namely shoes and sneakers, and computer and video game user instruction manuals; magazines, books, and pamphlets concerning video games; computer and video game strategy guide books and magazines; trading cards, maps, posters, advertisement boards of paper or cardboard, art prints". This suggested that they were going to work on creating a game or franchise called Starfield in the near future.
