Observations
The Incident I find the recent accounts to be inexplicable. A great force has struck our city, and the losses are immeasurable, Vashti being among them. The Scaled Citadel now stands in the heart of a crater, as if the Great Serpent is reminding us how He may be selective in His mercy.

Discussions with the other Houses have yielded nothing. The Conjunction's Envoys have no reports of any technology that could produce the devastation we all witnessed, and my Wardens have not detected a single security breach. All we can do is hope we live in the aftermath and are not sitting in the eye of an even greater storm.

I must believe that the Great Serpent tests us, and I intend to ensure that our people do not lose sight of their faith.

Betrayal A day I always feared came last night. Vaeric turned against me. He abandoned his duties to House Veth'aal, and rejected the Great Serpent Himself. He is a heretic, and yet in that moment, I found myself unable to carry out his sentence. I simply watched him walk away.

I mourn the loss of my daughter and countless others in silence. A House Elder must remain strong for the sake of their people. But never could I have foreseen such an offense from my own son at a time like this. My anger almost surpasses my grief.

I have always believed the Great Serpent tests His most loyal subjects. I am not surprised to find it my turn, but still I let my son turn his back on me and walk away. Have I failed? And if so, is redemption within reach?

Priorities My Wardens work endlessly to enforce the rules of State and maintain order in Dazra, and the High Council pesters me over the power grid. I wish I could say my work consumed me, but instead I am unable to focus. The situation with my son weighs heavily on my mind.

Luther and Vitoria are the only ones that know, and both advise me to find Vaeric and forgive his transgressions. But I cannot. To pardon my own son now would be a disaster. The people would see me as weak and corrupt, and I cannot allow my authority to be tainted.

Vaeric's execution must be carried out before I can announce his heresy and release myself from this burden. I will not have the public discover my hesitation allowed a heretic to go free, especially when that heretic is my own son. But who is trustworthy enough and possesses the skills to follow through?

The Serpent's Will Today, the Great Serpent showed me His great capacity for mercy. Vaeric has returned. He has re-embraced his family and the Great Serpent. House Veth'aal may begin to heal, and my mind is finally clear.

For the first time, I am able to focus on the Scaled Citadel and the High Council's plan to access it. Was I foolish to put my needs before that of House Va'ruun? Did my inaction put the people of Dazra at greater risk? Perhaps, but it was the Great Serpent who laid this test before me, and the Great Serpent who delivered the means overcome it. I do not doubt this was meant to be, and soon we will uncover the fate of Anasko and House Va'ruun itself.

The Serpent's Will It is done. My son, the heretic, is dead, and though a weakness in me wanted him spared, I see now how it was the Great Serpent's will. He Himself sent me Vaeric's executioner in the form of an outsider, an outsider who was able to walk the path and become Promised. The burden has been lifted and my mind is clear.
